Books and conversations

I just finish reading a book called "Emergency Sex- True stories from a war zone". The book is about stoires of three different peacekeeper working for the UN that are put together. Three different people, different background, different purposes that they look for when they sign up for their missions but their common point has put them together and set them apart. However, the book is good because it has put stories of real people before politics.

I have always admired people who can do more for others. Normal people but with a grant heart. To be honest, with time, you become skeptical on all the NGOs, people who truly put their heart in helping other people are rare, it's like we are running out of heros. For instance, what NGO do in Africa is almost like using the unhappiness or bad luck of other people to advertise their actions and look for more funds. Yes, sounds pessimistic but most of the time that's how it works.

Anyway, I also read a book about clinical trials on alternative treatments such as acupunture, homeopathy, herbal therapy, bloodletting..etc. I have always been a fan of alternative treatments, especially since I start working for the company that I work right now, I am even more skeptical when it comes to doctors, and hopitals...etc. To my surprises, most of these treatments turn out to be nothing than a miracle placebo effects. I was very much into this book since it also gives a good history info on clinical trials, how it was firt started, for which purposes...It's just great.

Other than that, life passing by quickly with dinner with friends, do yoga, go to movies, work hard....

Greetings from a fellow blogger in Belgium :)

It can seem increasingly difficult to do good deads when large organisations are involved. Still, the vaccination work that the WHO and others have done have led to amazing decreases in some infectious diseases.

That book about alternative treatments sounds very interesting. Do you remember its name?
