A year in the Merde

After "We European", which is a good book on the culture diversity of Europe, I have just finished a book "A year in the Merde" about a Brit who lives in Paris for 1 year, and of course he was making fun of the French who speak English, about having a French girlfriend, about how French people work, and about reasons for not buying a house in France's country side ;-). It is just hilarious...

Most people say "Belgium is a country that the British invented to upset the French", "Every Belgian has a brick in his belly" or "Belgian can brew fruits, and still call it beer" or "Belgian is less romantic than the French, less efficient than Dutch, they are German" or most foreigners laugh at how the Flemish and Wallon argue against each other, or like many of my friends say there is no Belgian language...But hey, having a brick in the stomach is not that bad, cosy home, good food, and brewing delicious beers with names like "Mort Subite" or "Verboden Vrucht", isn't that cool? And although most Flemish authorities find their toughest task is to persuade ignorant foreigners that there is a second language in Belgium, and actually it is the first, Belgians in general are born artist, I think. They are extremely imaginative in areas like strip cartoon (Herge), singers (J.Brel, Johnny Halliday, Adamo..)...

So, it's all stereotype and prejudice, I guess...But well, most foreigners stay in Belgium, no? and you can find easily people who stay here for almost 5 years despite all complains about weather, how formal and bourgoise the Belgians are ;-)

How about French people? They always have meeting, but never come up with decisions, their most favourite national sport is striking, French women can refuse sex but at the same time remain flirtatious, or they are rude and chauvinistic...French are romantic (no doubt) hohoho
