Of everything and nothing

Time for a real post ;-). The weatherman forecasted the weather would be cloudy, rainy...but the sky of Brussels, at the moment, seems to be at rest, one blue sky, the sun is shining through thin layers of white cloud that passes by from time to time. The temperature is quite pleasant, about 14 Celcius, not so cold, not so warm...

I have been occupied with some great activities. Two weeks ago, I went with my Chinese class for dinner, and learnt to make jiaozi with a chinese chef ;-). It was great because we got to practice our chinese, talked about many things else than the usual lesson. Everyone was very happy. It was the same week that my painting teacher, Quentin Smolders has a vernissage of his works. To be honest, I was very excited to see his works since he has ever worked in the workshop, and I found myself surprised when I finally saw his paintings. They were extremely beautiful and unsual. His works were a combination of unreality, cubism, and the use of colour was amazing. Other than scholar activities, I visited Liege, I mean a real sightseeing trip ;-). So, I did 500 steps climbing to the top of the Liegoise memorial statues, worked around the city. My sightseeing trip ended in the Hoegaarden village, about haft way between Brussels and Liege, where they make the famous white beer. Of course, no escape for a tour, the visit was interactive and informative, costed 6Eur with a free Hoegaarden beer and a Hoegaarden beer glass.

While I was busy with some normal, fun activities (and worried about my papers' problems), the world continues to be in turmoil. Problems happened in Tibet are those that remind me how lucky I am to live in Europe. Certainly, there are problems everywhere, but if we sit down and consider the seriousness of each problem, our problems are the least to be mentioned or whined about. Should we protest against the Chinese? Will our protest make a different? Why bother? If Tibet win their freedom, will they be able to manage themselves? Endless silly questions, in my opinions. For me, it is as simple, if we protest, things might change or might not, but if we don't, surely NOTHING will change! The naked and cruel truth is when you are a small, poor, unimportant country, nobody is gonna be on your side. While you need those big, moral Western countries for their support, they turn your back to you for they themselves don't want to lose a big part of their pie. China is a big country, big population, that means big pie, who don't want a part of it?

Yeah, China and Vietnam, like many my friends say, are developing, the economy is booming. Booming, my *ss! It is booming in an unbalance way, the rich gets richer, the poor falls to the bottom. Why do you think many chineses, vietnameses want to live in a foreign country or put their pride at stake for the sake of obtaining a work permit in Europe? Foreigners like us always face embarrassed situations but it is not at bad at our own governments treat us. That's the sadness of all. We have no country!
